Understandings

1.  We understand that each team member is solely responsible for his/her own conduct.  The team, however, will endeavour to assist each other in this accountability.  The team President, Vice President Chief of Staff and Chief of Operations, will deal with any embarrassment to the team caused by a member.  If it is determined that a team member is to not continue the venture he/she will be sent home it will be at own/parent’s expense.

2.  We understand that neither the AVA members, President, Vice President, Chief of Staff, Chief of Operations nor the Guide Director are responsible for enforcing, maintaining or upholding another family’s rules, mores, values or standards of conduct.  We expect our youth/each team member to strive daily to abide in the core values and norms of the team.

3.  We understand that there are neither chaperones nor baby sitters during the trip nor do we hold any of the adults or leaders on this trip liable for our child’s behaviour.  We believe that our youth is mature enough to participate in this co-ed venture and have no reservations in allowing them to participate.  We trust our child and believe in their ability to make good choices.  We believe our youth is strong enough to stand by their convictions.

4.  We understand that AVA purposes to place the team members in various situations of decision-making and challenge.  The team members will strive and be allowed to experience Spain, France and whatever other countries visited in the same manner as other youths / young adults their own age.  Neither the Executive Board nor any of its representatives assume any responsibility for the outcome or conduct of the trip.  We totally, without reservation, support the outline, scope and purpose of this adventure.

5.  We understand that the team members will strive to totally immerse themselves in the available cultural, social and linguistic opportunities afforded them during the trip.  They will purposefully create adventure, take risks and deeply explore the Spanish peoples, their lifestyles, customs, norms and protocols.

6.  We understand that the overall operating principle from which the AVA core values derive is Honor.  We expect and trust that our youth/each team member will grow and abide within this expectation.  Our desire is for them to have an enriched cultural experience and personal growth as a servant leader.

7.  We understand that the trip is a private venture created by the founders of AVA.  We understand that the AVA venture is neither a school nor school district sponsored function, nor is it affiliated or endorsed by any educational or academic institution.

8.  We understand eligibility to travel is determined by the AVA selection committee branch of the Executive Board.  If for any reason a team member is no longer eligible to travel or withdraws from the team after financial commitments have been made all products purchased on their behalf will be provided including any monies as yet unspent minus the initial non-refundable guide fee deposit.
